NEEDS EXPLANATION

Someone please explain this to me.

There has got to be some reasonable explanation as to why a “person of color” is sporting a swastika on his shirt.

Nazi?

The only thing I can come up with is that he is a foreign exchange student from some small village in Mubibia (I made that country up) and his sponsor family are a bunch of smart-asses.

  1. AL7AIR Says:

Well he looks Indian to me and not African American (like your tags suggested), so he might be Hindu. And in Hinduism the right facing swastika represents Pravritti (the evolution of the universe). You’ll find this swastika symbol all over Hindu temples, altars, and other iconography.

  2. feefifoto Says:

This may be a bit of a stretch but my Indian friend tells me the swastika is actually a sign of peace in India, so maybe this person thinks what he’s wearing is acceptable, although the thing on his shirt is definitely a Nazi swastika. Wish I could read the printing on the sign to his right to see what language it’s in.

  3. Russ Says:

I don’t want to make excuses for Nazis and such but the Swastika is a much older symbol than the 1930s Nazi movement makes you believe. While the meaning of the symbol is tarnished for the next century or so you shouldn’t believe all uses of the symbol have to have Nazi associations. Do a
Google search on Swastika and you’ll find out about the other, less known, meanings.

  4. Mike Says:

“Archaeological evidence of swastika-shaped ornaments dates from the Neolithic period. An ancient symbol, it occurs mainly in the cultures that are in modern day India and the surrounding area; sometimes as a geometrical motif and sometimes as a religious symbol. It has long been widely used in major world religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.

The swastika was appropriated as a Nazi symbol and gained further association with the Third Reich as the Reich gained influence. Though once commonly used over much of the world without stigma, over time the symbol has become a controversial motif, especially in the Western world.

    Do research before silly commentaries…

  5. Paul Says:

The swastika is a religious symbol that predates the Nazi party by 3000 years and has been used by different religions around the world, from various native american tribes to the ancient Egyptians.

For the young man in the picture I’m guessing that he is hindu and it a good luck symbol.

  6. dumbass Says:

dumbass, the swastika was adopted (stolen) by hitler and the nazis from hindu culture. look it up on the internet before posting such retarded generalizations. also, the nazi swastika isn’t slanted like this one.

  7. Der Says:

Doy. The guy looks more like he’s from India, which would make lots of sense because Hindus, Buddhists, Jainists, and others use this symbol. It has to do with eternity, harmony, evolution, and other stuff depending on who is using it. The swastika predates Nazi use by roughly ten thousand years.

    But it’s all right here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

I shouldn’t have to tell folks this.

  8. Ian Says:

I’m surprised you don’t know about the religious significance of this symbol in India.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

Depending on the country he was in at the time of the photo, this t-shirt could be quite innocent. Not everyone in the world views the swastika the way we do in the west.

  9. Will Says:

The swastika existed long before it was adopted as a symbol of Nazis. Swastikas have significance in many religions including Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism as well as many Asian cultures.

  10. jay Says:

The Nazi swastika is actually just an inversion of an ancient Hindu symbol that means eternity.

  11. Tom Says:

Actually Hitler and the Nazis did not steal this from the Hindu they stole it from the Norse. Numerous symbols employed by the Nazis (Swastikas and the symbol for the SS are just two of them) come from the Norse runes and Norse iconography.

As was indicated in this case I believe the individual in question is Hindu and they also utilize the same symbol so it makes sense although the symbol on a white circular background superimposed on a red shirt does remind one of the Nazi flag.

  12. Card Says:

    ZOMG He’s a NAZI

  13. Donn Says:

Even if it is innocent, the odd thing is that it’s in a white circle on a red background, which is the exact design of the nazi version.

  14. DB75 Says:

That’s not the hindu swastika. That’s a Nazi flag on a T-shirt. Look at the orientation of the swastika, the circle around it, and the red background. That’s all nazi iconography.

  15. Anil Ram Says:

The guy in pic is not wearing it as a Hindu symbol or for luck. The guy who posted is shallow in general knowledge. The commenters have no idea about Indians (affluent, educated indians,). They (including me) ‘ll use any excuse to do the unlimited.

  16. Dylan "Mother F***in" Carter Says:

I like how no one guessed he might just be wearing it to be a jack ass. Maybe he has a a since of humor and thought it’d be funny for a person of color to wear a swastika.

  17. Xaziel Says:

As cool as it is that there’s so many people who know about the original meaning of the swastika… Come on! It’s a Nazi symbol in this case– Tilted, on a white circle, on a red background. Look up any image of the Nazi-specific swastika, and *boom!* It’s this guy’s shirt.
    Now I’m confused…

  18. that guy Says:

Face it: the Nazis stole the swastika from the world (with all the peaceful, spiritual meanings associated with it, and replaced them with messages of fascism, hate, and genocide). We’re not getting it back. It’s a Nazi symbol now, so don’t make a bunch of excuses. Also, don’t wear red shoelaces in your Doc Martens, or red suspenders, and flight jackets “because you like the way it looks.” And don’t make some lame excuse about how “it doesn’t mean THAT to ME” because it does to everyone else, fucker.

  19. Coincidence Says:

That picture happens to be taken in Singapore. Why? Because of the orient lady in the background and the shopping centre looks very familiar to me. Couldn’t resist leaving a comment since he is mistaken for a African nationality.

Definitely a Nazi’s swastika cause the Hindu’s Swastika must be an equilateral cross with its arms bent at right angles, in either right-facing or left-facing forms. And the language on the equipment is Chinese.

  20. Justin Says:

Everyone has pretty much told the truth. The “Swastica” is the sign for peace in India. Hitler just took it and turned it.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag_of_Germany_1933.svg

    that’s a nazi swastika, fuckwits.

  22. BornIn1142 Says:

It’s most likely an ironic joke.

  23. Potatoe Says:

The language in the sign is most diffidently Hindi. I can’t read it because of the low quality picture.

  24. Charlie Says:

Generic comment thats been repeated about 15 times about how dumb the poster is for not taking into account alternate meanings of the symbol to make myself feel smarter!!! Its been said; we know, shut up.

  25. To that guy Says:

“that guy” Yes it’s a popular symbol to mean Nazi here the western world, but many countries still believe in it as a sign of peace, and no one can take that from them, not you or the Nazis. Because you know what, YOUR NOT EVERYONE, YOU ARE JUST SOME SAD FUCKER SPENDING HIS LIFE AT THE COMPUTER LIKE A LITTLE BITCH.

  26. steve Says:

Even if he is Indian, he should still get his ass kicked. The people in India, or for that matter everyone all over the world, knows what it means here in the west, so wear your shit symbols, in your little back water country and wake up to yourself. Fuck it being some symbol for peace, it aint anymore peckerheads. I don`t walk around down town Mumbai with a t-shirt saying “tendulker is a fuckwit” do I, even if i want to, thats just asking for it, and so is this. Ya bone heads pack of nerds.

  27. zero-kill Says:

You are all right in some respects.

In this picture he is presenting the Nazi version of the symbol, but in reality he is wearing the Hindu version, the mirror effect is captured by the camera. Also the guy is obviously a tool and being used to present some sort of message.

    Thus he fails, at everything.

  28. leetman Says:

or maybe he’s a nazi. shit. hitler didn’t even fit his own criteria for the perfect race.

  29. Jeff Says:

    HAI GUISE

HAS ANYONE SAID THAT THE SWASTIKA ISNT ALWAYS A SYMBOL OF NAZIS YET.

    CUZ IT ISNT

JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS SAID IT YET

  30. Someone Says:

Well, I’m positive that at least some cultures that used the swastika before the Nazis took it still use it now, so it still might be for luck.
It’s definitely a Nazi shirt, which could mean a couple of things:
    1. The historical group called the Aryans (as opposed to the Nazi Aryans) were Indian. He may be using it in that sense. This is very unlikely, he’d have to be very smart and a little crazy.
    2. He’s being funny/sarcastic. This is probable.
    3. He’s intentionally ignoring the Nazi meaning of the shirt and using it as a Hindu swastika. Also probable.

  31. ee Says:

    You’re all fucktards.

  32. to that guy who prior to this responded to a previous poster who went under the title that guy Says:

the poster like 2 posts above me…..you are the worst! ahahaha

Let’s real quick clarify where exactly “here in the western world” is. would that encompass the united states, germany, russia, japan, italy, great britain? only a handful of nations spread across the globe who were directly involved in Nazi conflict and would have pretty close knowledge to the most (in)famous use of the swastika symbol? do you think there are too many people in the world who have ever used a computer in their life or have ever had their picture taken who don’t know about Hitler or the significance of the Nazi symbol, the swastika? Nah.

there are going to be very few if any countries who would ever dare use that symbol again as a sign of peace due to the intense stigmata associated with it. even if this kid in this picture thinks he’s innocent and just wearing an indian peace sign on his chest, he is also auto-educated enough to have known that the symbol is much more commonly known as an anti-jew beacon. if this kid is posing for a digital camera pic inside of a supermarket then yeah, he’s heard of nazis, he knows what the fuck he’s doing.

  33. mad dog Says:

I for one, welcome our new Hindu-Nazi Overlords!

  34. Wayne Right Says:

This guy is obviously a sick nazi - i mean look at the evil grin he has. Who in their right mind wears nazi clothing if they’re not a nazi? I find it strange that he’s a nazi because he’s coloured so maybe he just doesn’t like jews?

  35. JESUSFUCK Says:

It’s a fucking picture, stop going psychotic about it.

  36. pennyi Says:

zero-kill, are you saying the camera captured “a mirror effect” of his shirt? reconsider whether cameras actually reverse images.

  37. Amor Says:

It doesn’t matter where the swastika originated, this kid is wearing the Nazi swastika. Counter clockwise in a white circle on a red ground? I challenge any of you to find that on an ancient Hindu temple.

  38. anonymous Says:

    OP got pwned

  39. RLS0812 Says:

I decided to “translate” this image a bit.
There are a lot of different cultures that use the swastika, most taking the meaning of it to be Peace and Longevity. Here is a link to what that image means tot he person waring it
    http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1989/bnzmj9.jpg

  40. SAM Says:

In Buddism the swastica is an ancient symbol of good luck,I is the germans who made it into what you are thinking.

  41. wannabedesi Says:

Yeah, that guy’s Indian, and might not know he’s wearing the wrong swastika. Kind of a funny picture though

  42. honestly Says:

before the nazis “hijacked” the swastika, it was widely used as a symbol of peace, worldwide. It was the emblem on a canadian ice hockey team, a worldwide, popular symbol for buddhism, and several people wore necklaces with a swastika on them to bring “good luck to all they meet” as the tradition goes

it may have been said already, but theres quite a lot to go through so im not sure :)

  43. Woody Says:

He’s Hindu asshole. Take the picture down and find some other idiot to clown on. (like me!) Before you post something, maybe look into it a little. I really liked the site here until I saw this picture. I thought you were smartasses with attitudes, turns out your dumbasses with attitudes….

  44. I AGREE WITH JEFF Says:

GUYZ I THINK JEFF IS TOTALLY RITE.

LETS KEEP ARGUING TO MAKE OURSELVEZZ FEEL BETTER KAY?!

  45. xara Says:

okay in this case, you are the dumbass….and the first person i have ever come across who didn’t know the significance of the right facing swastika

  46. Jennifer Says:

I’d like to mention that there is a cafe in India called “Hitler’s Cross” and has the swastika as it’s cross symbol at the restaurant. you can check out the article about it here… http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/08/24/sports/fuhrer.php

So, the guy could have gotten the shirt from the cafe and still an idiot for not realizing the negative history behind the symbol

  47. C Says:

He might be a Jain. The flag of that religion features a swastika, as do many of its prominent images.

  48. Eddie_Eights Says:

“Archaeological evidence of swastika-shaped ornaments dates from the Neolithic period. An ancient symbol, it occurs mainly in the cultures that are in modern day India and the surrounding area, sometimes as a geometrical motif and sometimes as a religious symbol. It has long been widely used in major world religions such as Hinduism, Roman Catholicism, Buddhism and Jainism.

The swastika was appropriated as a Nazi symbol and gained further association with the Third Reich as the Reich gained influence. Though once commonly used over much of the world without stigma, over time the symbol has become a controversial motif in the Western world, while remaining a sacred symbol in other parts.

(”remains a sacred symbol in other parts”)

Jainism gives even more prominence to the swastika than does Hinduism. It is a symbol of the seventh Jina (Saint), the Tirthankara Suparsva. In the Svetambar Jain tradition, it is also one of the symbols of the ashta-mangalas. It is considered to be one of the 24 auspicious marks and the emblem of the seventh arhat of the present age. All Jain temples and holy books must contain the swastika and ceremonies typically begin and end with creating a swastika mark several times with rice around the altar.

Jains use rice to make a swastika (also known as “Sathiyo” in the state of Gujarat, India) in front of idols in a temple. Jains then put an offering on this swastika, usually a ripe or dried fruit, a sweet (mithai), or a coin or currency note. In 2001, India issued a 100-rupee coin to commemorate the 2600th anniversary of the birth of Mahavir, the 24th and last Jainist Tirthankara; the design includes a swastika.”
(even in 2001 sections of India are putting out coins with swastikas on them… If he is from there, you think he thinks a tee shirt is bad? He probably thinks it a joke, albeit one in very poor taste, as I can’t believe he is naive to its meaning in a lot of the world.

Then again, he could be a muslim who hates jews… ;-)

  49. Mark Says:

Hey Dumbasses…. it DOESN’T MATTER how old the symbol is or what it “really means”. The NAZIS kind of ruined that for everyone.

  50. Tommy Says:

You idiot. Swastikas are a part of Hindu religion that was stolen by the Nazis - who believed the master ‘Aryan’ race brought them to the old civilization of India in ancient times.

  51. Alex Says:

    or he’s just being ironic

  52. Amber Says:

I think the person who posted this should be pictured here instead. Dumbass!!!

  53. asas Says:

    What an ignorant post.

  54. sdgdf Says:
