ELECTROPOOL

ElectroPool

Pool, Beer and a Grill.

Almost nothing wrong with this picture besides the lack of bikini-clad babes.

Oh, and there is a power strip floating on some flip-flops running from the grill to an extension cord.

That would probably explain the lack of women in this picture.

These guys could be the Cover Boys for the Occupational Safety and Health Administrations “What Not To Do” manual.

That extension unit looks very french, with the extruding ground pin. More power to them. :D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_AC_power_plugs_and_sockets#Type_E_.28French_2-pin.2C_female_earth.29

  4. Say Your Worst Says:

Wow, the outcome after that picture is definitely a Darwin Awards candidate. What the hell is allowing that extension chord to float?

It is only laughs and smiles until the plugs ground against the water. Hope they drank enough to numbness!

  5. Does it really matter what my name is? Says:

That was shocking. It can either be
    1-It was switched off
    2-They are 110% insane
3-Or have absolutely know idea what that freakin electricity could do to them!!!

  6. Lo Says:

Oh wow… That’s probably the stupidest thing i’ve ever seen in my entire life… if they died i can’t say i’m sorry for these assholes…

Err … you do realize that most of the extension cord (and grills) come with a “Safety” this days that automatically cuts the power when theres a short right?
    (watch mithbusters)

Its still pretty dam stupid still ..

whats interesting is these are Russians
and the original website had nice text with it

basically one of the power strips is being tested, for water exposure. ie the metal prongs are sealed once connected and thus preventing shock or electrocution.

read, learn, and use google. DUH

    They actually lived?

    very obviously staged.

people actually know what they’re doing,
and yes it is possible to be in a RUBBER NON CONDUCTIVE environment with water and electricity. arseholes.

  16. Andreas Says:

The only thing what could happed is that the fuse blow up.
The plastic pool will isolate the ppl from the ground / earth and they will didn’t get hurt.
    Same effect as isolating transformer.
Fishes in a pond also didn’t die when the powercord of the waterpump will broke.

  17. Peace Says:

Dont be mean to the undereducated masses. ignorace is bliss, so let the ignorant have there entertainment from a midly amusing photo.

Calm down! And stop with the Irish slang on the internets! Arse dose not replace ass in asshole! Say arsehole! Did you hear yourself say that! See it sounds dumb! Now get your knacker ass outta here!

  19. MikedaSnipe Says:

1 - Its grounded, they are in a RUBBER POOL.
2 - Its probably unplugged just in case one moron touches the grass, its a neat photo, but many wouldn’t take the risk.
3 - You guys fail at electricity

  20. MikedaSnipe Says:

Sry about double post - but i should also mention they are probably also using a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) just in case. Those are the plugs with the reset buttons you have in your washroom. It prevents you from dying when you try to cook toast and bathe at the same time.

  21. Nathn Says:

    Proberly Bloody french.

  22. Beetle Says:

I know you saw what happens when electricity hits water in 23458746765 movies people but please please PLEASE don’t take ANYTHING you ever saw in ANY movie seriously (except perhaps for zombie movies…you never know).

  23. Electrician Says:

Obviously the proper way to do it would be to use a regular extension cord and wrap electrical tape all around the plug.

Then it wouldn’t even need to float on flip flops it could just lay in the pool.

  24. suck it Says:

when putting a grill right next to the pool seems waaaaay to fucking easy.

  25. sparky Says:

assuming they havent got an residual current cutoff device, it wouldn’t matter that the pool os rubber ; there is still a path to earth through the earth pins of the extension lead. Current would flow, smell would be like pork (and not from the rill) , YOU FAIL at electricity.
    Rubber pool LOL

  26. Phil E. Drifter Says:

Well, seeing as how it’s an inflatable pool, they probably just filled it with tap water, which is, uh, nonconductive. Water itself is not conductive and only becomes so when something conductive is dissolved in the pool. So at worst, they probably just tripped the breaker. At best, this is just an elaborate set up (with the cord not actually plugged in) so they could snap a pic and distribute it on the ‘net pretending they are that stupid. it could go either way.

  27. that guy Says:

even if the cord was receiving no gfci protection it wouldn’t matter. the pool is rubber which isolates them from ground. the electricity, which always wants to use the easiest path, would flow out the energized side and right into grounded/grounding side of the extension cord. In order to feel much of anything you would have to put (insert body part here) directly between the ungrounded and grounded sides of the outlet.

And to the guy that said tap water doesn’t conduct electricity, even if their tap water was deionized any number of things could have ionized it like say, the salts on their skin, never make assumptions.

You’re wrong. Ass is the definition of a donkey. Arse refers to the rear end. In American english “ass” is acceptable use as American english is based on phonetics of British english but it is by no means correct. Just because your entire culture is responsible for butchering our language dont try to claim supremacy by being so arrogant when you have no right.

Also to others that believe someone could be electrocuted in this situation is wrong. It is common practice, which i have done myself in training, to repair power lines with high voltages flowing through them. What electrocutes you is when your body is grounded. When your body isn’t connected to the ground or sufficient isolation is used the electricity arcs throughout the body, in simplistic terms like a part of the current. What causes a shock, in another simplistic term is when your body is a termination of the circuit. We could debate this needlessly, in greater detail about power, resistance, phase inversions in alternating electric, etc etc, but that is not needed for a rudimentary understanding of the principles at hand.

Assuming the bottom of the extension is watertight you are correct. As we both know, power would flow normally until a conductive element like water bridges between the earth, neutral or live. Obviously what would cause a problem is a short circuit between live and neutral.

Others are correct though by stating electrical consumer supplies in homes and businesses have redundancies and fail safes implemented such as circuit breakers and isolation trip switches.
